Isn’t great if we have machines that don’t need long wires and hard configurations to do simple or even complex jobs? A wireless connection is absolutely far more convenient than wired. Well, as we continue to embrace the digital age, modern day machines are becoming less dependent on wires to gain access to a computer network.

Take wireless printers as an example. Before the advent of wireless technology, printers need to be connected directly to a personal computer to receive printing commands. With 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, connection to the printers with wireless capabilities can be established from as far as 300 feet. For the transfer rate, a staggering speed of approximately 54Mbps is easily achieved. So, when choosing a wireless printer for home or office use, a WiFi capable printer is the best choice. 

Printers Wireless – Buying Considerations

Buyers wanting to add a printers wireless to their computer system should consider few things before any purchase is made. Things such as design, cost, long term savings, features, and availability of consumables are the most important factors when planning for a wireless printer. 

First thing is the design. Though most printers look the same from the outside, the things inside are what matter most. The type of wireless technology supported, command buttons, and platform supported are fairly essential things that a buyer should know.  

As mentioned previously, WiFi is the best choice for wireless printers. Considering the command buttons, some printers offer touch screen displays which serves as the command interface when input for printing options is needed. The platform on the other hand is the environment supported by the printer. PC and Mac are two of the most popular platforms used in many homes and offices. A wireless printer should be able to support what you have for your machine. 

Next is the long term savings. Prices of wireless printers range from less than $100 to over $500. When opting for an inexpensive machine, make sure that it stays inexpensive in all aspects. A wireless printer with a $70 price tag can be tempting, but deceiving.

Though the unit is cheaper than any other products in the market, consumables (toner, other supplies) may end up twice more expensive than other printers, forcing you more investment on consumables than the unit. However, a $500 wireless printer may have its consumables at cheaper prices which can save you your hard earned dollars in the long run. 

The features of a printer should not be left behind. Aside from the main wireless features, things like auto-document feeder, scanner, photocopier, memory ports, and Ethernet port are just among the bonuses one can get from a wireless printer.
